The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated a renewed focus and commitment of hospitals and health systems to address health equity and eliminate disparities in care. Through the standardized collection and use of race, ethnicity and language data preferences, organizations are able to leverage data and analytics to better understand the unique needs of their patients, identify healthcare disparities and develop patient-centered performance improvement plans to support clinical and community health strategic planning.
During our next webinar, EQIC staff will overview REaL data reports available to assist hospitals improve the systematic and reliable collection of standardized patient demographic data. Best practice guidance and resources shared will support hospital teams to identify priority population(s), design equity-focused quality improvement projects and target interventions to ensure care delivery, services and programs are delivered equitably.
In 2021, Atrium Health was recognized by the American Hospital Association and awarded the Carolyn Boone Lewis Equity of Care Award for their success with applying data with an equity focus in its COVID-19 response. Kinneil Coltman, DHS, Atrium Health’s senior vice president, chief community and social impact officer, will join us to share their system’s REaL data collection transformation journey to: achieve and surpass a 97% collection rate; use rigorous data-driven strategies to identify gaps in clinical outcomes and drive care improvement; and leverage community-based partnerships to improve healthcare utilization.
