The EQIC contract ended on Sept. 17. This website is no longer regularly maintained but contains many tools, resources and recordings from our programming that will be accessible through June 2025.

Pressure injuries remain one of the most common harms experienced by patients and result in substantial financial burdens to healthcare systems. No other preventable event occurs as frequently, making PIs one of the costliest challenges hospitals face, with acute care rates ranging from two to 40%.
While data show that compliance with PI guidelines prevents most HAPIs, many hospitals struggle to reduce HAPI rates and incorporate best practice recommendations into routine care. As one study found, despite high compliance rates to basic PI prevention strategies, there was still potential for improved implementation.
Our next EQIC unit-based safety webinar will address these challenges and evidence-based guidance for optimizing PI prevention, assessment and management. Strategies include preventing and mitigating PI progression, improving clinical documentation to ensure reliable, consistent staging of PI and applying interdisciplinary approaches to overcome barriers and sustain results.
The presentation will introduce the Standardized Pressure Injury Prevention Protocol, a QI bundle designed specifically to enhance best practice guidelines for HAPI prevention and support clinician and patient access. Formulated as a simple checklist, SPIPP can be customized to fit your unit’s culture and enhance structure and communication. Participants will learn how SPIPP can help empower your team to standardize practices by simplifying the complex process of HAPI prevention into core components with supporting QI interventions to drive efforts towards achieving high reliability and zero harm.
EQIC encourages the participation of hospital staff responsible for unit-based safety, including frontline staff, key liaisons, pressure injury leads, chief nursing officers, chief quality officers, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, hospitalists, wound/ostomy providers, educators, patient safety managers, quality data analytics staff and quality improvement team members.
Note: The PI webinar will take place from 1 - 2 p.m. CAHort participants will stay online for their quarterly meeting from 2 - 3 p.m.
