Opioids

EQIC’s approach to reducing opioid-related adverse drug events includes preventing unnecessary opioid prescribing and identifying patients at high risk for complications. The EQIC program educates on best prescribing practices including dosing, tapering, avoiding dual-ordering and using opioid alternatives. It also focuses on reducing opioid ADEs, which requires involving the entire care team to identify potential issues, screen patients for opioid tolerance and risk and mitigate risk when a problem is identified.
